SETTING UP A LINKEDIN ACCOUNT
To create a LinkedIn account, follow these steps:
1. Launch your favorite web browser and navigate to www.linkedin.com. The LinkedIn home page appears.
2. Enter your contact information. First name, last name, email address, and unique password.
3. Click Join Now. The Build Your Profile page appears. Click the link to confirm your email address.
4. Choose an option from the I Am Currently drop-down menu. The default option is chosen. You can also list yourself as working independently or
looking for work or as a business owner or student.
5. Choose a country from the country drop-down menu.
6. Enter your zip code, company, and job title. This option is the default if you indicate in step 4 that you’re employed. If you choose one of the
other options, enter your zip code and the industry in which you work. If more than one industry applies, choose the one associated with your
profile or in which you have the most expertise.
7. (Optional) click the plus sign (+) icon next to Add a School. This option is available if you are a student. It displays the college/university text field.
You can enter this information now or while setting up your LinkedIn profile.
8. Click the Create My Profile button. The See Who You Already Know on LinkedIn page appears.
9. Choose an option for an email server. If your email server is at your company’s web domain, skip this step because it applies only to email servers
such as Yahoo! and Gmail. After you choose an email service, you click a button to log into your email service. LinkedIn compares the email addresses
in your address book and then notifies you when one of your correspondents is on LinkedIn.
10. Complete the process of checking to see whether any of your recipients is a member of LinkedIn, or click Skip This Step. A message appears,
asking you to check your email for a confirmation message from LinkedIn.
11. Open your email from LinkedIn and click the link to confirm your email address.
From your confirmation email, you also have the opportunity to:
. Build your network by finding contacts who are already on LinkedIn. This is similar to step 9 in the preceding step list, but in a different dialog box.
. Import a contact file from Apple Mail or Outlook or another format. The files must have the extension .csv (comma – separated values),
.txt (text file), or .vcf (vcard file). You can find out more about importing contact form your desktop email by clicking the Learn More link.
CREATING A LINKEDIN COMPANY PAGE
You can promote your company by adding a company page to LinkedIn. When you create the page, you add information about your company. You keep the page current by adding new activity that occurs within your company.
To create a company page on LinkedIn, follow these steps:
1. Log into LinkedIn, choose Companies from the More menu. The Companies Home page appears.
2. Click the Add a Company link. The Add a Company page appears.
3. Enter your company name and email address and then click Continue. A page appears telling you a confirmation email has been sent to the email
address you provided.
4. Check your Inbox for the confirmation email and then click the link. You’re redirected to LinkedIn.
5. Click the link to confirm the email. If the email address is different that your primary LinkedIn email the Add Basic Information page.
6. Enter the following information for your company:
. Website URL : The URL to your web site.
. Description : A description of your company and the basic services you provide.
. Industry : Select the industry in which your company does business.
. # of employees : Enter the number of employees in your company.
. Type : Choose the option that matches what type of your company.
. Country : Choose the country in which your business is located.
. Postal code : Enter the zip code in which your business is located.
. Your position : Choose the option that matches the position you hold with the company.
1. Click Save and Continue. A page appears telling you that a page has successfully been created for your company.
2. Click Browse beneath company logo to upload your company logo. You can upload a GIF, JPEG, or PNG.
3. After uploading your company logo, click Save Changes. The page refreshes notifying you the logo has successfully been uploaded.
4. (Optional) Click any or all of the following links to beef up your page:
. Locations : Lets you add detailed information about the location of your company.
. Financials : Lets you add the total revenue your company earned, the year it was earned, and the currency type.
. Blog : Lets you add the URL of your company blog to the profile.
5. After adding information to a section click Save Changes.
