GETTING CONNECTED ON LINKEDIN

To get connected on LinkedIn, follow these steps:

1. Log into LinkedIn. Your profile appears.

2. Choose Add Connections from the Contacts drop-down menu. The Import Contacts and Invite page appears.

3. Enter your email address and password. Click Continue. This option works if you use an email service such as Yahoo! or Gmail.

When you click Continue, you see a list of people from your address book who are on LinkedIn. You can pick and choose the ones with whom you want to connect.

4. In the Enter Email Addresses text box, enter the email addresses of the people with whom you want to connect. Each email address must be separated
    by a comma.

5. Click the Send Invitations button. A message appears at the top of the page, telling you that the messages have been sent. Your recipients may
    not be members of LinkedIn, but they receive an invite nonetheless.

6. Click Colleagues. The Colleagues page appears. If colleagues from any of the places you’ve worked at are on LinkedIn, you see them on this page.
    A button appears for each place you’ve listed in the employment section of your profile as long as people from that company are on LinkedIn. Click
    the link and follow the prompts to connect with people with whom you’ve worked.

7. Click the Classmates link. The Find Past or Present Classmates page appears with a link from every academic institution you list on your profile.

8. Click a school link. A list of people who are on LinkedIn and attended your school appears.

9. Click the Invite link next to the person’s name to invite him to become a LinkedIn connection.

10. Continue to invite additional contacts from your schools.

11. Click the People You May Know link. A list of people that LinkedIn thinks you may know appears, using an algorithm that only LinkedIn understands.

12. If you find a person to whom you’d like to connect. Click Connect. The Invite Person’s Name to Connect on LinkedIn dialog appears.

13. Choose an option from the How Do You Know <person’s name>? list. Your options are: Colleague, Classmate, We’ve Done Business Together,
      Friend, Other, or I Don’t Know <person’s name>.

14. (Optional) Fill in the personal note section. The can be used as a memory jogger if you haven’t contacted the person in years.

15. Click Send Invitation. Your invitation to connect is sent.
