Optimizing LinkedIn

OPTIMIZING LINKED IN

LinkedIn doesn’t offer quite as many options for SEO as other forms of social media do. Start by including search terms within your profile text, with descriptions of any groups you start, and within postings to a group. Just keep it gentle and unobtrusive. Follow these steps to optimize your profile and to pass along some SEO credibility:

. Use your name or company name in your LinkedIn URL (eg, www.linkedin.com/in/newlifeweb or www.linkedin.com/in/socialmarketing).
Because search engines look at keywords in URLs, this technique makes your company easier to find.

. Use content similar to your page description metatag within the first paragraph of your LinkedIn profile. It should already contain some of your primary search terms.

. Unlike Twitter, links from linkedIn to other sites carry link juice. You can have as many as three links on your profile. Set one to your web site and
another to your blog. Use keyword-based link text on a third link to drive traffic to another page on your site or to another of your social media pages.
